We begin our journey heading north from Arequipa. Along the way, we will enjoy views of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. Our first major stop is **Pampa Cañahuas** within the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we can observe vicuñas—producers of the finest wool in the world. We then reach the highest point of our trip, **Patapampa** (4,900 m.a.s.l.), offering a 360-degree view of the volcanic range.
After descending to **Chivay** for lunch, we will check into the hotel. In the afternoon, you can relax at **La Calera Hot Springs** (38°C). The day ends with a special dinner accompanied by a vibrant folkloric dance show.
Day 2: Condor’s Cross – Traditional Towns – Arequipa
After a 5:00 a.m. breakfast, we head to the **Condor’s Cross**, the premier viewpoint to witness the spectacular flight of the Andean Condor and the immense depth of the canyon. We will spend about 1.5 hours here before visiting the traditional towns of **Pinchollo, Maca, and Yanque**. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is this a trekking tour?
No, this is a **conventional tour**. Most of the travel is done by bus with strategic stops at viewpoints and towns, making it perfect for families or those who prefer not to hike deep into the canyon.
What time do we see the Condors?
Condors are most active in the morning (between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.) when the thermal currents help them soar. That is why we leave Chivay very early on the second day.
How can I prevent altitude sickness?
We recommend drinking plenty of water, eating light meals, and trying the local Coca leaf tea. Since we reach 4,900 meters, it’s best to have spent at least one day in Arequipa beforehand.
